Monday, 01 March 2010 13:23

Dr. Conrad Murray is out on $75,000 bail after being charged with involuntary manslaughter. Prosecutors had asked bail to be set at $300,000, but Superior Court Judge Keith L. Schwartz rejected the request for the larger amount.

Jackson family members attending Murray's arraignment hearing spoke out against the decision and mother Katherine was quoted as saying "He's lying. He's guilty. Nobody was there but him, He's just trying to save his own behind .. He killed him. He wasn't monitoring him."

Michael Jackson died last year at the age of 50 while under the care of Dr. Conrad who admitted giving the singer a drug called propofol and other sedatives to help him sleep. Propofol is most commonly used in operating rooms to put patients to sleep. A coroner's report found that Jackson died of acute propofol intoxication.

Murray must surrender his passport which will allow him to travel freely within the US, but not outside of the country. His next court date is April 5th to schedule a peliminary hearing.

Involuntary manslaughter carries a maximum penalty of 4 years in prison, and the California Medical Board is preparing to seek removal of Murray's medical license there.
